Best way to specify associationData when writing Nintex webservices

How does one specify the associationData string when creating .js files consuming Nintex Web Services.

I've struggled with this for a long time so help would be appreciated.

I have a variable I will use to populate the start variable in a Nintex workflow:

var associationData =  jQuery("#myID").val();

The start variable name on the child workflow is:  "Folder"

I have read one needs to build a string something like:

associationData = "<Data>" +  "<Folder>" + associationData + "</Folder>" +  "<Data>";

and I am trying to build the web service SOAP body  part for the associationData as follows, using the above: values

"<associationData>{WorkflowVariable:associationData}</associationData>"

which does not work when I run my code.  the workflow starts but it does not receive the start value.

How exactly should this line in the web services be specified??

thanks
