Nintex workflow instance moved from suspended to terminated because it has expired

Question asked by tom on Jun 7, 2016

I have several Nintex workflows that have been running for a relatively long time, because the workflow contains a task that was not completed. However, at some point the workflows were terminated automatically and when I look at the logs I see the following error message:

The instance has been moved from the Suspended state to the Terminated state
because it has expired. The original error which caused it to be Suspended is:
An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the workflow instance.

Can anyone explain to me why the workflow instances were terminated? Do Nintex workflows have an expiry date or something?

Thanks in advance
