I have a sharepoint site in which my nintex workflows are giving the error "failed to start" workflow cancelled by system account. All the workflows in this site are giving same error message when item created and workflow gets started.
Yes, in my case the solution was to re-schedule the "Timerjob Recycle" timerjob in CA.
It was used by too many third Party applications - so the OOTB time Slot (6 a.m. and no later than 6 a.m.) was not sufficient anymore.
I set the schedule to "4 a.m. and no later than 6 a.m.". So the timerjob has 2 hours to get a free slot an recycle. Which is running nicely right now.
Have you tried restarting IIS? If that doesn't fix it, there could be multiple things causing this. You may want to check the ULS logs and see what being reported there.
