we are ready to deploy our first smartforms application and we recently deploy to QA server(development server) for testing and have a few questions

1. we cannot generate link to view application, so in QA server we login to designer, get runtime URL from one of the forms and we can see our Application (with few small issues like Authorization error etc etc. that we are working on)

2. do we need to follow same procedure in Production server, we get runtime URL from one of forms in designer? or is there any other way to get the link? so its necessary to deploy smartforms designer to production server?

3. we want to protect Designer to be able to View in production server, we don't want user to access, and change anything in views/forms/smo's which will directly effect our application

can you guide me bit on this.

The Runtime URL is stored as an environment variable on your server. If you have the Runtime URL, then you should be able to use the suffix of the original Runtime URL in order get the new Runtime URL. More information is available here:

As for permissions into the designer site, you will control this by changing the settings in IIS. More information on that is available here:

thank you so much for your advice, please answer this question too --

our production server has blackpearl installed, is it important to install smartforms/designer too?

If we just create a package and send it over to Server Admin team, can't they just depploy application without the need of installing designer in Prodcution server?

Hi Priya,

Smartforms has to be installed on your envrionment to be able to deploy and run forms

On the Production Side you really only need K2 SmartForms Runtime and not designer, if you need to restrict SF designer on Production then you can simply not install it. In my experience though you should install SF designer but again that depends on the policies in your environment.
