I'm building a list that will hold loans of IT assets.
There should be a workflow that test if end date for loan is due and also it must check if the field holding the value indicating if the asset has been returned, is NOT true.
If asset end date is reached and asset is not returned a reminder should be send out.
What would be best practice to build this in Nintex Workflow 2013

You can build a workflow that starts when the asset is loaned (however you determine that). Then use a Pause Until action that waits until the due date. After that you can use a Run IF action that checks if the returne field value is not true. Inside the Run IF put a send notification that sends a reminder to the person who has the asset. If the return field is true, then it will skip the notification and just end the workflow.
