Does the Query List activity support the expansion of recurring events for calendar lists? We are looking to replace Bamboo Solutions Alert Plus and need this capability.

Unfortunately, no.
We were able to implement a daily notification of that day's events. It takes some additional logic to determine if recurring events occur on today's date.
