how to give a warning if there is an error happened on a field with unique value required

I created a list in SharePoint 2013.  See detail information below.

Columns:

Title: not required, but enforced unique

State: lookup, required

County: lookup, required

I create a workflow, to set Title as 'State'-'County'.  If user enter an duplicate item, e.g. CA-Orange is already existed in the list, there is an error happening.

My questio:

1. How to check if an error is happening and pop up a warning to user? For my case, how to check it the data entry is duplicated?

2. How to set the error message in Nintex workflow?

Thanks,

Jen

Hi Jen,

Instead of using Nintex Workflow, I would suggest using Nintex Forms. If you use Nintex Forms, with a calculated field, you are able to format the Title field to be set to 'State'-'Country' as well.

Then, before submitting, with rules you are able to verify if that exact combination already exists in the list. If so, you can show a notification that tells the user that the chosen combination already exists.

Kind regards,
Michel
