Looking for Nintex for SharePoint 2016 guidance? See the following link.
You may already be aware, but migrating from Nintex Workflow 2007 to Nintex Workflow 2013 is not supported.
Major upgrades are a complex set of procedures for which we have prepared detailed documentation. In major upgrade scenarios, we always recommend following our documentation and processes to preserve your workflows and avoid errors.
There are several caveats when performing the migration that should be taken into consideration before beginning the process.
Supported method of migration - Database Attached method
Only the database attached method is supported from Nintex Workflow 2010 to Nintex Workflow 2013 and is recommended for Nintex Workflow 2007 to Nintex Workflow 2010 when moving to SharePoint 2013.
Each version of Nintex will need to be Licensed (2007/2010/2013) to be able to perform the migration of Nintex Workflow.. Customers with current Software Assurance or Premium Support agreements are entitled to free migration from Workflow 2007 to 2010/2013 and will be entitled to run a migration development license key until the expiry of their support contract.
Once they have completed the preparation for the new version environment, we will provide a 15 day only expiry Production license key for customers to complete migration to the new version, at no additional charge.
Once they confirm they have completed their migration and no longer require their previous version license keys, we will update the Support Contract to the newer version and issue the full license key for the newer version.
In the event you have a customer that wants to run the new server in a Production environment in parallel for more than 15 days with their previous version as they migrate they are required to pay for the additional Production License at a prorated cost. Nintex will offer a subscription migration environment.
To organize licensing, please contact your Territory Manager or Deals Desk Analyst.
SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2013
Migrating from SharePoint 2007 directly to SharePoint 2013 is not supported. Please refer to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff730260.aspx for more information. The Microsoft documentation for upgrading can be found below.
SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010
SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013
As with SharePoint, you need to migrate your Nintex Databases from 2007 to 2010, upgrade and test them, and then upgrade from 2010 to 2013.
Nintex Workflow 2007 to Nintex Workflow 2010 Upgrading Nintex Workflow 2007 to 2010
Nintex Workflow 2010 to Nintex Workflow 2013 Upgrading Nintex Workflow 2010 to 2013
We highly recommend making backups of both the SharePoint and Nintex databases as close together (time-wise) as possible. Move them to the 2010 farm and perform the steps outlined in our Nintex Workflow 2007 to 2010 upgrade document. Once you have confirmed functionality of the farm in 2010, then once again backup, and move to the SharePoint 2013 farm and perform the steps in our upgrade 2010 to 2013 documents.
Throughout the whole process, please follow the guides above as the steps in these documents are the only supported methods to ensure that workflows are not impacted. If there are third party products that migrate directly from SharePoint 2007 to 2013, you should firstly check that they are supported by Microsoft. However, also be aware that they have not been tested with Nintex Workflow and are hence currently considered unsupported by Nintex.
It is recommended that you read all of the documentation and have a recovery plan in-place before starting the migration.
