We have create a training calendar for one of our departments in SharePoint 2010. When we scheduled a training class and indicated someone as the instructor, an email notification is sent out, but the email shows “pending” in the instructor field. The email sends out the following message to the students in the class:
This s a confirmation that Pending is scheduled to teach:
Course ID - 24
Course Title - fake training
Start Time - 10/29/2014 4:00 PM
End Time - 10/29/2014 5:00 PM
Location - room 18
The word "pending" is written into the Instructor Field. It has been fixed by putting in a pause to delay it long enough to update the instructor field with the instructor's name, which is working well. My question is without the pause, why does the word "Pending" get written into the Instructor field first?
It is a field on the form, here is a picture of it:
If you do not cause a pause, the instructor field shows the Word “Pending” in that field. But we have put in a pause, and it gives it time to update before sending out the email in the work flow.

So is the person filling out the form adding the name of the instructor? What does the workflow do after the item is saved? Is it just sending a notification, or does it do some other stuff first?
