We have a current requirement to create the capability for someone (designated by the Approver) to act on behalf of
an Approver on an Approval Request Task without an admin interaction or current approver having to click on the delegate link on the task.
We tried giving the individual in question elevated access on the approval task but that didn’t work. We are
just curious if you have any recommendations to satisfy the requirement.

Hi Sean,
this is not possible. You can only assign the task to the approver and the one who can act on behalf of him to satisfy your requirement.
A Task can only be answered by the user to whom it was assigned. Not even an admin can answer this task. If someone else should be able to complete the task, it has to be delegated to this user first. However, an admin can delegate every task, even the ones that haven't been assigned to him.

You can use the delegate task web service to delegate the WF from the approver to the new approver. Depending on the logic for the delegation it may can be built into the delegate WF and not require any intervention.
