I ran across the requirement to do this for my organization, and couldn't find the whole solution in one place so I wrote something up. I hope someone finds this useful.
I have an approval workflow. If the workflow is approved, certain columns should be inserted into the uploaded Word document.
I've recreated your example workflow, but updating the word document doesn't work.
The workflow is completed and in the process I also see that it stores the selected items in the variables. The version also increases but the selected items are not inserted into the Word document.
Do you have any ideas why it doesn't work?
