Diagnoses
The Data Label was set to use an Item Reference field, in addition to being set by a SmartObject Read method, which was likely getting set to an array object of multiple return values by a rogue Output Mapping.
Resolution
Set the 'Field' property of the Data Label to '(None)' and the data loaded in correctly.
