Nintex workflows not starting properly

We are facing an error when trying to start a workflow.

At first we had the below error.

Nintex.Workflow.NWActionExecutionException: Failed to start workflow. ---> System.ArgumentException: Value does not fall within the expected range.

 at Microsoft.SharePoint.Workflow.SPWorkflowExternalDataExchangeServiceCollection.get_Item(Guid id)

 at Microsoft.SharePoint.Workflow.SPWorkflowExternalDataExchangeServiceCollection.get_Item(Type type)

 at Microsoft.SharePoint.Workflow.SPWinOESubscriptionService.CreateSubscription(MessageEventSubscription sub)

at Nintex.Workflow.Activities.StartWorkflow2Activity.CreateExternalEventSubscription(ActivityExecutionContext context, Guid workflowInstanceID, Type interfaceType, String eventName, String[] correlationTokenNames, Object[] correlationValues, WorkflowQueue& queue)

 at Nintex.Workflow.Activities.StartWorkflow2Activity.Execute(ActivityExecutionContext executionContext)

 at System.Workflow.ComponentModel.ActivityExecutor`1.Execute(T activity, ActivityExecutionContext executionContext)

 at System.Workflow.ComponentModel.ActivityExecutorOperation.Run(IWorkflowCoreRuntime workflowCoreRuntime)

 at System.Workflow.Runtime.Scheduler.Run()     -

-- End of inner exception stack trace --- (Build:3210)

After enabling safe loop on the Central admin we are now facing another error that reads the below.

MainWorkflow failed to run.

Following the ULS logs we find the below error.

AutoStart Workflow: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: Recursive workflows are not permitted. at Microsoft.SharePoint.Workflow.SPWorkflowAutostartEventReceiver.<>c__DisplayClass1.<AutoStartWorkflow>b__0(SPSite superUserSite, SPWeb superUserWeb)

We don't know if the above is related in any way to the issue, however this what we could find.

Can you please asist.

Re: Nintex workflows not starting properly

Hi,
For the first issue I would try restarting the workflow timer service on all servers where it is found.

The second error appears to be a reursive workflow. An example of a workflow is where there is a possiblity of an endless loop.
For instance if you have a workflow that starts on item modification and the workflow modifies the item the workflow will start again as the item was modified.
