Issue with workflow Timer Job

In central Administration, it is found that workflow timerjob is not running.It is getting always paused.Due to this approval in nintex workflow is not completed.Also many workflows are in starting stage.

 

Restarting the Timer job, Purging the nintex workflow history, Clearing the timer config cache didnot help to resolve this.Also no mail notification which is configured in workflow is not sent to the user.Please advise.

Timer job issues are always hard to diagnose.
I suggest contacting Nintex support for this issue.

If you want to continue investigation I suggest looking at how many rows are in the dbo.workflowProgress table in the nintex content database(s). Make sure its under around 10 million rows.

Doing test 1 and 2 from the following document may also give you an insight as to what your issues may be.

Thanks for your Timely Reply ,It is found out that 179 million records in workflow Progress Table. SO I have Purged the Workflow History using SQL Query. But It is found out that Records from the workflow Progress Table is not reduced after the Purging. Should I need to use any other Approach for Purging the Workflow history.

 

Please advise me to reduce the Size of workflow Progress Table.

I also suggest that you purge the workflow History lists first.
