Hello experts,

I am really really a newbie to K2, just doing some self learning since a few days ago and already found K2 is a really good tool for general workflow purpose!

Our company didn't buy k2 designer, so I only got K2 studio for devleopment, my question is:

How to create a smartobject that can be connected to a oracle database in K2 studio?

I did found some tutorials on how to build smart object but in K2 designer, not K2 studio, any help will be really appreciated!!!

Many thanks!!!

Ray

There is no way to create SmartObjects from within K2 Studio. That ability is only available if you are using K2 Designer or K2 Designer for Visual Studio. To create a SmartObject for an Oracle service, you will have to use the SmartObject Service Tester, available in the bin folder of your installation folder for K2 blackpearl. There should be an Oracle Service that you can create a Service Instance for using a connection string for Oracle. From there, you can create a SmartObject from the available data.

Ray,

I have a few articles you can try.

1) K2 Management Console - Oracle Service

http://help.k2.com/onlinehelp/K2blackpearl/UserGuide/current/webframe.html#The_K2_Oracle_Service.html

http://help.k2.com/onlinehelp/K2blackpearl/UserGuide/current/webframe.html#How_to_use_the_Oracle_Service_instance.html

I am not an Oracle user, so I only know about what is in the documents.

2)How to K2: Using the SmartObject Service Tester utility for troubleshooting

http://help.k2.com/displaycontent.aspx?id=6243#

Ignore the K2 Designer parts, the SmartObject are built in SmartObjects - Services Tester

While this video does use SQL, there are a lot of good points in the video.

The video specifially talks about SmartObject - Services - Tester at 7:50

3) K2 SmartObjects - Fundamentals

http://help.k2.com/files/4515 (PDF download)

This is an overview of SmartObjects, Creating SmartObjects begins on page 22. K2 Studio SmartObjects are created on page 24.

4)  K2 SmartObjects - Intermediate

http://help.k2.com/k2lm-200per.aspx

The first lab of the intermediate course explains how to create a Service Instance with SQL, I am sure you can do something similar to interact with Oracle. The labs do go through creating a composit smartobject in K2 Designer, but you can build a composit SmartObject in K2 Studio.

Here is a blog post about building composit SmartObjects in K2 Studio:

http://community.rightpoint.com/blogs/viewpoint/archive/2012/09/14/build-a-composite-smartobject-in-15-minutes-or-less.aspx

I hope that can point you in the right direction. If you have any other questions feel free to post again

Hi raygrrr,

Your question may have been answered, but I thought I'd add a little more info to this post in case others come by. If you're teaching yourself and haven't signed up for any of our courses through K2 Learning, you can actually walk through the K2 Blackpearl Core course on your own, in your own environment at no cost!

First, here's a link to the K2 Learning Library. This has information about all of the content/courses we offer...

http://help.k2.com/k2learninglibrary#!/K2%20blackpearl/Courses

Here are links to the latest version of the K2 Blackpearl Core course, with PDF handbooks and video(updated for 4.6.9 and above):

     Overview: http://help.k2.com/k2lc-bp1

Online Course material and videos: https://help.k2.com/onlinetraining/BP1/Default.htm

If you go into the Core course, you can find material on building SmartObjects in K2 Studio in Part 2 of the course named 100.EDI. This section assumes the student has built out the labs up to this point, however, you may be able to read through it or watch the video to figure out what you need to do.

If you'd like to enquire about instructor led training, or self-paced training where we set you up with a cloud based training Virtual Machine that has K2, SharePoint etc all installed, send a message to us at the following address, learning@k2.com,  and we will get back to you with info and pricing.
