Solarwinds

Hi Y'all,

We would like to install a new Monitoring Tool on our K1  application server called Solarwinds (http://www.solarwinds.com/)  in order to monitor performance of diff. services more accurately.
Does anyone have any experiences, opinions, recommendations in this regard?

Thanks & looking forward to read you.

You will want to monitor the usual suspects with regard to overall server health (CPU, Memory, Disk Space, K2 and IIS Services)

You can enable performance monitors within K2 to expose addition about what is happening within the K2 Service. Read more that and other environment monitoring considerations here: http://help.k2.com/kb000297

Also, don't overlook monitoring the SQL Server health. It ultimately has the greatest impact on your environment. http://www.solarwinds.com/topics/sql-server-monitor

Finally, if you want to be a bit more proactive in your handling to workflow errors, you can set K2's logging to only log errors to the event log and then you can use Solarwinds to watch for entries from K2 and raise the appropraite notificaitons.  I like this appraoch as it generally tends to be more straight forward than parsing a log file. I did a quick google and found a forum post that might help get you started https://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/49678

With regard to K2 log settings, here is a link to a post by Johnny Fang that is a good ready reference to get you going (you will want Event Log Extension) https://johnnyk2com.wordpress.com/2015/08/14/how-do-i-use-logging-in-k2/

Hope this helps get you going.

Hello Scott,

Thank you for the post. We have also setup SolarWinds Application Monitor for a client, and we are also monitoring the SQL DB.

Lately, we've been having some issues with the forms loading up and also getting data, the challenge here is that the forms are slow to open up, and sometimes it just hangs. When we troubleshoot, we observe that on IIS, the worker processes on the smartforms runtime app pool keeps piling up requests and stops processing them. To get things moving again, we have to restart the IIS service. This is not ideal and we have been trying to figure out the cause for this. However, we would equally like to monitor parameters that may be able to help with info on this issue.

Would you or anyone else have specific parameters we can actually configure for moitoring to help address this issue?

Regards,

Femi

We are not using Solarwinds but another monitoring solution and we can monitor for event logs. We also use PENS to montior workflow errors and the problem is it just stops occassionaly and we have to delete k2processerrors.xml an restart PENS.

If we could get our monitoring soltuion to see errors in the event log it would be better but I have so much noise in the event log real errors can be hard to find.

we have a lot of events generated every few minutes on disbaled user accounts.

64007 Provider did not return a result for K2:XXXXXX on GetUser

0 SharePointRoleProvider.GetGroups: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: An unexpected failure was encountered when contacting SharePoint to get information from the group provider Home: 'The specified user XXXXXX could not found.' --->

Does anyone know how to get rid of these I have tied to clear the user Cache of these users.
