Is there way to delete an item while its stuck in progress?

I have a development site that I'm testing new workflows and I have some orphaned items in my library. The problem is that I am unable to delete them once I'm finish teting each stage of the workflow. Oh yeah! I forgot to mention that I'm a newbiee. Help!
