How can I create an Appit test environment that is separate from my production environment?

Appit can be applied to a Site or Site Collection. This allows the user to limit Appit to a specific area of their SharePoint environment. Thus, to create a test environment separate from a production environment, all the user needs is a separate Site or Site Collection. This designated area can be used as a test environment.
Furthermore, within Sharepoint, the user can control permissions to a Site. This will limit who has access to the test environment. Also, it is possible to limit permissions specifically for Appit.
