Failed to start workflow. New instances of this workflow template are currently disallowed.

Hi,

We are using Nintex 2013 workflow. We modified an existing workflow. But after publishing the workflow is working as expected. Changes are not reflecting . We are getting following error "Failed to start workflow. New instances of this workflow template are currently disallowed."  We have modified workflow settings and allowed the creation of new instance. Still not working. We have also deleted, renamed the workflow. Please let us know your valuable and prompt inputs.

Hmm in workflow settings only one workflow version should allow new instances and this should be the latest version.

Can you try to publish the workflow under a new name to have a clean start on your workflow and run it? Does it run normally? If so you could go ahead with the new workflow if you don't need the version history of your old workflow.

Otherwise try to disallow all instances in workflow settings and publish the workflow again. This should again end in a new line in workflow settings with allowed instances.

Lastly, from where do you start your workflows? Try starting it over the context menu of your item and see if it works. I remember a customer that had placed a link on his intranets starting link which pointed to a specific workflow instance version which tried to start a disallowed version. Maybe this is also the case here.
