Why does converting a document from Word to PDF take 10-15 minutes?

I have a workflow that has one action to take a word document in a document library and convert it into a PDF.  The workflow performs just as I would like, but the time it takes is way too long (about 10-15 minutes).

Is there a reason behind why this is happening and is there something I can do to make the workflow run faster?

Hi,

The convert document action used word automation services in your environment. If your environment is slow or this service is slow then the document conversion will be slow.
