Hi everyone!

Currently i want to build a project on K2 Blackpearl with my team but i dont know where i can start. As you know documents user guide used to K2 Designer create a simple workflow as: Leave Request, Sales Order Application... but i dont see any document used K2 for Visual Studio build a simple application on K2.

My question is:
- How to build a project on K2 blackpearl with a team multiple developer?  (What is tool Designer can be used? (K2 Desinger/ K2 for Visual Studio/ K2 studio???)
- When i use K2 Designer, it can let me create SmartForms faster than, but if there had a lot of developer, how to create project same as visual studio? Check-in, check-out and do not impact between others.
- Any documents used to K2 for Visual Studio for developer can follow up?

I'm a newcomer. Hope to get your helps.

Thanks!

Hello,

From what I understand you are looking for a platform to develop a project with K2 that can be accessed by multiple people on those individual teams. If this is the case, I would look into K2 for Sharepoint if you have it set up/have access to it in your work environment. This would leverage the check-in check-out functionality and enable any of your developers to have access to Smartforms, Workflows, and SmartObjects without having to have it saved on a specific employee's computer. It would instead be done through the K2 for Sharepoint App.

For your second question if you are looking to create smartforms K2 for Visual Studio can not carry out this task. Smartforms can only be developed in the K2 Designer. However you can integrate them into your workflows using the wizards. See this documentation: http://help.k2.com/onlinehelp/k2smartforms/userguide/current/default.htm#K2_Forms_Process_Wizards_in_K2_Studio.html%3FTocPath%3D_____6

And for your last question I've some documentation on K2 for Visual Studio:

http://help.k2.com/onlinehelp/K2blackpearl/UserGuide/current/webframe.html#General%20-%20BlackPearl%20Studio.html

Also here is an overview of K2 Studio just in case you are curious about that:

http://help.k2.com/onlinehelp/K2blackpearl/ICG/current/webframe.html#K2ComponentDetailT11.html

Think of K2 Studio as a lower level of K2 for Visual Studio. It does what K2 for Visual Studio can except for implementing custom code.

Hi EvanM!

Thank for your reply.

And I have some questions to ask you:

- What are the differences between Workflow on K2 Designer & Workflow on K2 for Visual Studio?
- Why do I need  to use K2 for Visual Studio?
- Are they interchangeable? Can  I use K2 Designer to create a SmartForms, then use K2 for Visual Studio to create workflow integrate SmartForm in Workflow?

Thank you!

Hi Tuan,

Perhaps the following link might help (it's an old link, but i think it's really helpful).

K2 Designer Comparison

Hi,

Here are some answers to your questions:

1) There are some differences between K2 Designer's workflow builder and the K2 Designer for Visual Studio. Desinger is a much more simplified version of the workflow designer that is available in K2 for Visual Studio. The K2 Designer is much easier to implement with smartforms because it is directly connected to your library of smartforms. K2 For visual studio requires you to run a wizard to connect to your smartforms or sharepoint. The biggest difference is that K2 for Visual studio allows you to add and manipulate custom code on the events and activities of the workflow

2) You don't need to use Visual Studio unless you are trying to do more advanced workflows that require the manipulation of code. You can create an entire workflow process in designer if you so choose. Or use K2 Studio which is a more simplified version of K2 for Visual Studio.

3) Yes. You can use K2 Designer to make your forms and then build the workflow in Visual Studio. You will need to implement the smartforms integration wizard in the K2 for Visual Studio workflow in order to tie everything together.

Do you have any other questions or need anything cleared up?
