Update document action produces html codes in the Word Document

I have created a workflow which poplulates a Word document using the Update Document action.  It was working but is suddenly producing codes like </p> etc in the document (I assume these are the html codes).  I have tried to recreate the document but it still produces these symbols.  I have another workflow with the same information using a different list and template and this one works perfectly.

I appreciate any help I can get.

Hi,
If the document is notthe issue then it might be the list or data source.
Has any of the list columns changed or any of the other sources of data being used?

Thank you for the reply.  You hit the nail on the head - the data type of the relevant field had been changed.  It now works perfectly.
