Hi!
I have had a situation where I've had to cancel a running workflow on an item due to a necessary workflow amendment.
When I ran the new workflow on the item it logged myself as the Initiator and therefore lost the original details.
Does anyone know what the best way is to retain/log the name of the original Initiator in case this should happen again?

I agree with here. However, is your former initiator the same user that creates the item the workflow is running on? In that case you can use the "Created by" property/field of your list item.
Another way would be to create a hidden "initiator" field in your list and write the name of the initiator to this field. This gives you the possibility to et that information again from your second workflow process. You probably want your workflow to only fill this "initiator" field if its empty to not overwrite it later.

Thanks, Philipp. Yes, the former initiator is the person who created the item so I believe that this would work.
