The Nintex mobile application can lock a user out and ask for the 4-digit PIN to be entered; however, if the user has not setup their 4-digit PIN then they are locked out completely and the app must be uninstalled and reinstalled.

We are experiencing this issue. The user doesn't have a PIN set, but somehow gets logged out. Upon re-entering their username they are prompted to enter a PIN. They have to uninstall and reinstall the app to work around this issue.
@jmessner When the user next gets into the app, you could try clearing their stored data from the device, this will sometimes hold across rapid removal and re-add of apps on iOS devices. Assuming this does not solve the issue, and that your user is on the latest version of the app I would suggest reaching out to firstname.lastname@example.org with the details of the issue and the device type that the user has.
