Have a basic worklist that is showing all of the tasks for a given user.  There is a 'blue dot' beside each one, which I believe means its new.  The problem is that when the task is opened (click > and choose 'Open Form') the blue dot never goes away.  Anyone know if there is a setting or something causing this?

Hi camens

Please note that if you expand “Considerations” node in this guide - Worklist Control: https://help.k2.com/onlinehelp/K2Cloud/UserGuide/Update_11/default.htm#Create/K2Designer/Controls/Worklist/WorklistControl.htm%3FTocPath%3DCreate%7CSmartForms%7CForms%7CControls%7CWorklist%2520Controls%7C_____1, they wrote “Available items display with a blue dot and open items have no dots”.

You may expand the “Configuring the Control” for some more configurations you can make.

I hope the following should also be applicable in K2 cloud too if I’m not wrong – “Customizing a Worklist control's columns - Task priority”: https://community.k2.com/t5/K2-Five/Customizing-a-Worklist-control-s-columns-Task-priority/td-p/102560.

OK, but I wonder what the 'blue dot' is there for then?

So the blue dot means that the task is available.  The default behaviour (which is configurable) is when the task is opened it allocates the task to that user taking up the slot and removes the blue dot. This is configurable in the Smartform Open Worklist rule.

If a task is sent to 5 users, after one user opens the task (blue dot disappears) then the task will disappear from the other 4 users since its now allocated to the open that opened the task.  That user if they want from the task list can "Release" the task back into the queue.  If they do that the blue dot reappears on that users task list.
