The number of variations that can be created for a Process before it times out while creating the variation, varies depending on how large the Process is, a large Process will timeout earlier than a much smaller activity.
Additional Information
Testing has shown that a small Process can have up to 60 variations without timing out where a larger process with many activities timed out after 40 variations were created.
