Symptoms

I have a question regarding SQL Service service instances in K2 that reside on a different SQL server than the K2 database.

What ports need to be opened between K2 and the SQL server with the other databases? Is is just the SQL ports or does DTC need to be configured on that SQL server as well with the same allowed DTC ports?

Diagnoses

When SQL Server is on separate machine from K2 Server the service instance must be configured to know this. This is done by setting the "On Different SQL Server" field. You must then specify the Server and Database for the Service Instance to look for in order to access required data.

Resolution

Documentation on the SQL Server Service Instance was provided for 4.6.6 version of K2 Blackpearl:
http://help.k2.com/onlinehelp/K2blackpearl/UserGuide/4.6.6/webframe.html_SIC02.html

DTC is not needed for communication between K2 and a SQL server that is not located on the same server. The necessary settings are done when setting the SQL Server Service Instance. Required Settings that must be changed are:

-On Different SQL Server
-Server
-Database
